Mustapha Bakbou: Gnawa

Playing with Mustapha Bakbou – a gnawa musician and guembri player from morocco.

Taking care of the bass part in this situation is tricky, because the “Guembri” is actually a kind of a bass instrument and is playing a riff very much like a bass line.

Check out how the great John Patitucci dealt with a similar situation with the Wayne Shorter quartet in Morocco.

I love the way he’s playing less and stop from time to time to let the groove flow, and then laying it all down:)
